A BODYBUILDER is celebrating after winning a national qualifying competition — giving him a place in the prestigious finals next year.
Stuart Johnson
Stuart Johnson, of Alrewas, came first in the intermediate under-90 kilos category at the UK Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation’s Stars of Tomorrow contest held at the weekend in Hayes, Middlesex.
As a result of winning the qualifier, the 32-year-old has now landed a place in the British championship finals of the competition, which will be staged in October next year.
Mr Johnson, who runs a garage in Alrewas, beat off stiff competition from six other competitors.
He was crowned winner by a panel of judges who judged him on his physique.
Mr Johnson, who trained intensively for months before the big show, was given top marks for his presentation, poses and muscle mass.
The motorbike enthusiast, who has been bodybuilding for the last eight years, told the Mail: “I have had to undergo intense training and dieting for months to achieve this and coming first makes me feel like all my hard work has paid off.
“I’ve come second and third in other competitions, but it feels amazing to actually win.
“It’s a lot more than just going to the gym; it’s sticking to a strict bodybuilding lifestyle and it’s about beating yourself and your goals, as there is always someone bigger yourself.
“I love bodybuilding and I get a thrill seeing my body change.”
Mr Johnson, who trains at Physique Fitness Gym on the Ryknild Industrial Estate in Derby Road, Burton, said he was now focusing on next year’s competition where he could be crowned a British bodybuilding champion.
He added: “I’ll give the finals my best shot.
“I’m not very confident about winning it, but you can only try your best. For now, I’m celebrating my win and enjoying it.”
